My goal is<br \/>to keep old games working with modern tools while preserving the original<br \/><code>cocos2d<\/code> namespace and APIs.<\/p>\n<p>Axmol is an active Cocos2d-x fork and a good option. It has a different<br \/>namespace and includes broader changes. My fork stays closer to the original<br \/>engine.<\/p>\n<p>I have published two releases:<\/p>\n<h2><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"p-246584-h-3173-1\" class=\"anchor\" href=\"#p-246584-h-3173-1\"\/>3.17.3<\/h2>\n<p>A backward-compatible update for 3.17 projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Updated Android and macOS support<\/li>\n<li>Modern Gradle, SDK, NDK, CMake, and JDK<\/li>\n<li>Python 3 support<\/li>\n<li>Reusable Debug and Release prebuilts<\/li>\n<li>Font and rendering fixes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"p-246584-h-3180-2\" class=\"anchor\" href=\"#p-246584-h-3180-2\"\/>3.18.0<\/h2>\n<p>A larger update:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dependencies are built from source<\/li>\n<li>Updated Box2D, GLFW, LuaJIT, OpenSSL, curl, and more<\/li>\n<li>Improved CMake and Android builds<\/li>\n<li>Faster builds using engine prebuilts<\/li>\n<li>New Box2D examples and tests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Repository:<br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/shivmsit\/cocos2d-x\" rel=\"noopener nofollow ugc\">https:\/\/github.com\/shivmsit\/cocos2d-x<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Releases:<\/p>\n<p>Fixes, issues, and pull requests are welcome. Many developers still maintain production games built on 3.x, and keeping the original <code>cocos2d<\/code> namespace while modernizing the toolchain provides a practical path for extending those projects without requiring major code changes. The separation between a compatibility-focused fork and feature-rich alternatives like Axmol is also a thoughtful approach, giving developers the flexibility to choose what best fits their needs. Thank you for investing the time to update dependencies, improve build systems, and maintain compatibility with modern Android, macOS, and development tools. Open-source efforts like this help preserve existing games and reduce maintenance challenges for teams that continue to rely on Cocos2d-x. That is exactly the goal: keep<br \/>existing Cocos2d-x projects maintainable without forcing a namespace or engine<br \/>migration.<\/p>\n<p>I have now released Cocos2d-x 3.18.0 and 4.1.0.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Third-party dependencies are included and built from source.<\/li>\n<li>Reusable prebuilts speed up macOS and Android builds.<\/li>\n<li>Modern Android build tools are supported.<\/li>\n<li>Builds are tested on macOS, Linux, Windows, iOS,  and Android.<\/li>\n<li>The original <code>cocos2d<\/code> namespace and familiar project structure are kept.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cocos2d-x 3.18.0 is intended for long-term 3.x projects. Cocos2d-x 4.1.0<br \/>brings the same maintenance work to the v4 engine.<\/p>\n<p>Please test them with your existing games.
