\u00a01.October 24\u00a0is observed as World Polio Day. World
\nPolio Day was established by\u00a0Rotary International\u00a0on 24th October to
\ncelebrate the birth of\u00a0Jonas Salk,\u00a0who developed a vaccine
\nagainst\u00a0poliomyelitis.<\/p>\n
2.India and the U.S. will sign\u00a0the last foundational
\nagreement,\u00a0Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement for Geo-Spatial
\ncooperation (BECA)\u00a0during the upcoming\u00a02+2 ministerial dialogue. This
\nagreement would facilitate exchange of geospatial information between India and
\nUnited States for both military and civilian use.<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0IndiGen Program: Genomics for Public Health in India
\n(IndiGen)\u00a0, It aims to\u00a0undertake whole genome sequencing\u00a0of
\nthousands of individuals representing diverse ethnic groups from India. The
\nobjective is to enable genetic epidemiology and develop public health
\ntechnologies applications using population genome data.<\/p>\n
4. The United Kingdom has entered into a strategic
\npartnership to develop India\u2019s fledgling international financial services
\ncentre\u00a0GIFT City. GIFT\u00a0(Gujarat International Finance Tec-City),
\nlocated in Gandhinagar is\u00a0India\u2019s first International Financial Services
\nCentre. <\/p>\n
5. The Centre has asked the Punjab Government to explain its
\nutilisation of\u00a0the Rural Development Fund (RDF)\u00a0that it gets largely
\nfrom\u00a0the Food Corporation of India (FCI). This has enraged the state
\ngovernment. RDF is\u00a0the 3 per cent cess levied on the purchase or sale of
\nagricultural produce under the Rural Development Fund Act, 1987\u00a0which is
\nexecuted by\u00a0Punjab Rural Development Board (PRDB)\u00a0with\u00a0the Chief
\nMinister as its chairman.<\/p>\n
6. The Odisha government has requested\u00a0the Wildlife
\nInstitute of India (WII)\u00a0to conduct a fresh study for identifying the movement
\nof\u00a0Olive Ridley sea turtles,\u00a0which would help the State renew its
\nconservation efforts along its coast. Rushikulya rookery coast\u00a0in the
\nGanjam district of Odisha,\u00a0Gahirmatha beach\u00a0and the mouth of the Debi
\nRiver, are the major nesting sites in Odisha.<\/p>\n
