Ram Gopal Varma warns AI could transform the future of human work

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has shared his thoughts on the growing influence of artificial intelligence and its possible impact on employment.

Drawing a comparison between AI and the Industrial Revolution, Varma argued that technological progress has historically reduced the need for certain forms of physical labour. He believes AI could now have a similar effect on jobs that depend heavily on human thinking and creativity.

In a post on X, the filmmaker suggested that people who are slow to adapt to AI could be among the first to see their jobs affected.

Varma reflected on how technology has traditionally been developed to reduce physical effort, save time and make everyday tasks easier. He questioned what could happen if technological progress eventually removes the need for both physical labour and certain forms of intellectual work.

He also referred to the familiar warning about being careful what one wishes for, suggesting that humanity’s desire for greater convenience and free time could have unexpected consequences.

Meanwhile, Varma has several projects in progress. His upcoming film ‘Police Station Mein Bhoot’ features Manoj Bajpayee and Genelia Deshmukh.

He is also working on ‘Police Company’, which stars Harshvardhan Rane. The filmmaker previously described the project as being inspired by a police squad and its members, with Rane portraying a character based on police officer Daya Nayak. More details about the ensemble cast are expected to be announced later.
